CARTER INCLUDED IN SCOTLAND’S WOMEN’S T20 WORLD CUP SQUAD

Kent Talent Pathway product Darcey Carter is included in Scotland Women’s squad that will compete at the forthcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in UAE.

The 19-year-old all-rounder from Bexley has featured in 17 Women’s IT20s for Scotland so far in her career, scoring 335 runs at 23.92 and taking 15 wickets at 12.93.

With the bat, Carter has two International T20 half centuries to her name so far, including 53* in her second appearance for Scotland against the Netherlands in July 2023, and 54* last time out against the same opponent. Her best figures with the ball in WIT20s is 3-11, again against the Netherlands in September 2023.

In 2023, Carter was nominated for the ICC Women’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year Award for her appearances for Scotland, who she qualifies for through her Scottish mother.

Thirteen of Scotland’s squad featured during the qualifying campaign in UAE in April and May, when Scotland made history by reaching a senior ICC Women’s World Cup for the first time.

Also in the squad is former Kent Women ‘keeper-batter Sarah Bryce, and Priyanaz Chatterji, who featured for Surrey Women against Kent in the Oldest Rivalry T20 Showcase on 29 August.

Scotland will take on Bangladesh, West Indies, South Africa and England in Group B, with the top two in the group qualifying for the semi-final stage. The tournament begins on October 3, with the Scots facing Bangladesh in the opening fixture In Sharjah.

Craig Wallace, Scotland Women’s Head Coach said: “This is a special day for everyone connected with this team. To be part of the first group of Scottish players to be selected for a senior Women’s World Cup is a great achievement, and the players and their families should be so proud.

“The makeup and balance of this squad is outstanding. We’ve got match-winners from start to finish within it, which I think is the big difference in the evolution of this squad during my short tenure. People have been putting in crucial performances each time they step onto the field, and that runs right the way through the squad.

“I am so excited about what lies ahead. If we behave and play the way we have done during the last year, who knows what can happen at the World Cup – we could win as many games as we want to. The players play a great brand of cricket, and have so much belief in themselves, so the possibilities are limitless, really.
