Cannabis farm worth £490,000 uncovered at disused shop

A man has been charged after an “extensive” cannabis farm was uncovered at a disused shop in Buckie.

Officers executing a warrant on a property on East Church Street around 6.45pm on Thursday made the discovery.

The farm is said to be worth an estimated £490,000.

A 36-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with drug offences and is due to appear at Elgin Sheriff Court.

Police are urging anyone with information regarding the discovery to come forward.

Detective sergeant Steven Young said: “This is a significant recovery and is an example of our efforts to disrupt the trade in illegal drugs in Scotland.

“It also underlines our commitment to the Serious Organised Crime Taskforce and the country’s Serious Organised Crime Strategy.

“We would continue to urge anyone with information or concerns about drugs and firearms activity in their area to contact Police Scotland on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
