Biotech firm secures £63m funding

1. A Scottish biotechnology firm trying to find novel ways to treat liver disease has received £63.5 million in new funding.
Resolution Therapeutics, which has its headquarters in Edinburgh, is using macrophage cell therapy to see if liver transplants can be avoided for patients with cirrhosis.
The investment was headed by Syncona, the FTSE 250 life sciences investment fund, which put in £37.9 million in a previous fundraising.

The new money will be used to progress Resolution’s main treatment through clinical trials, as well as expanding its manufacturing operations and looking towards applications in other diseases.
