Big moves made in Scotland ahead of DP World Tour Play-Offs – Articles

Tyrrell Hatton has surged inside the all-important top 70 on the Race to Dubai Rankings in Partnership with Rolex as the battle to make the DP World Tour Play-Offs heats up.

The Englishman started the week in 83rd but a birdie on the last saw him claim a one-shot win over Nicolas Colsaerts at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and rocketed him up 67 places to 16th, with the top 70 eligible to qualify for the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship – the first event of the DP World Tour Play-Offs.

The top 50 at the end of the week at Yas Links will then advance to the season finale at the DP World Tour Championship, where the winner of the Harry Vardon Trophy will be crowned.

Colsaerts is also currently in the frame to make the Play-Offs but will need to cement his place over the remaining two events on the Back 9 – this week’s FedEx Open de France and the regular-season-ending Genesis Championship.

Yannik Paul moved himself inside the top 70 as he finished 19th in Scotland, with Frenchman Adrien Saddier moving into 70th by finishing alongside the German.

There is still much to play for for those on the outside looking in, with Haotong Li’s top ten moving him from 90th to 75th and within touching distance of the Play-Offs.

Further back, Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen showed what a good week can do as he looks to make the jump from European Challenge Tour to Play-Offs in quick time.

He secured his place on the DP World Tour for the rest of this season and next by winning three times on the Challenge Tour but was playing catch-up having featured in just six events on the Race to Dubai season to that point.

A tie for 13th at the acciona Open de España presented by Madrid and a tie for fourth over the weekend have seen him leap 87 places in two weeks and while he still has a mountain to climb from 121st, he may have the momentum to book an unlikely trip to the Middle East.

The Back 9 so far

The Back 9 started with a first-time winner, as Dane Niklas Nørgaard lifted the trophy at the Betfred British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo to ensure his place in the Play-Offs, with Matt Wallace punching his ticket with victory in a play-off at the Omega European Masters. Rasmus Højgaard then held off the challenge of home hero Rory McIlroy to win the Amgen Irish Open, with McIlroy losing out again the following week in the Rolex Series at the BMW PGA Championship, as Billy Horschel took home the trophy. There was more play-off drama the following week in Madrid when Angel Hidalgo took down Jon Rahm in an all-Spanish battle before Hatton prevailed in Scotland as the DP World Tour’s late-season run of world-class international golf continued.
