BBC Scotland sports presenter says ‘I’m pinching myself’ after landing new role
BBC SCOTLAND sports presenter Amy Irons says it’s an ‘honour’ after she was selected to lead the channel’s Hogmanay celebrations this year.
Irons, the daughter of former Scottish football player and manager Davie, will host Hogmanay 2024 on BBC One Scotland.
She replaces Edith Bowman, who hosted a show last year which also included music from singer-songwriter KT Tunstall.
It’s a role also famously filled for years by Reporting Scotland anchor Jackie Bird.
Irons is well known from her work on the ‘Sacked in the Morning’ podcast with Craig Levein, in addition to The Nine and The Edit on the BBC Scotland channel plus the Adventure Show and various Scottish sports bulletins.
She said: “I think I’m still pinching myself sharing this news! What an honour to be bringing in the bells this year.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to be hosting Hogmanay for the first time and to celebrate Scotland’s most iconic night with viewers across the country.
“It’s an honour to be following some pretty impressive footsteps and taking on this gig.
“We’ve got an incredible line-up of talent joining us on the night to get the party started and make sure 2025 arrives in style.”
Former Wet Wet Wet frontman Marti Pellow, traditional Scottish Celtic Folk band Skipinnish, and country folk artist Rianne Downey will also still be on the show.
Earlier in the evening, comedian Des Clarke will host the Not Quite End of Year Show on the BBC Scotland channel.
Steve Allen, Commissioning Executive at BBC Scotland added: “We’re delighted to have Amy and Des leading BBC Scotland’s Hogmanay celebrations as we say goodbye to 2024.
“Hogmanay is a special time for audiences in Scotland to come together and I know Amy and Des will host the perfect party as we welcome in 2025.”
