A9 and A96 affected by flooding, warns Traffic Scotland
UPDATE: Confirmed Highland road closures and other flooding hit spots
Flooding is causing dangerous conditions on parts of the A9 and A96, Traffic Scotland has warned.
It has advised motorists that the A96 is “restricted due to flooding” between Forres and Elgin. Its online map suggests the worst affected part is a stretch to the west of Alves, but heavy rain means standing water will likely be a potential issue on many roads in the region.
“Motorists are advised to use caution and to expect longer than normal journey times,” said Traffic Scotland in an update shortly before 6am.
Meanwhile, a section of the A9 in Inverness that is notorious for flash flooding was also affected by standing water on Tuesday morning.
The drains on the southbound carriageway between the Longman roundabout and Raigmore interchange are often overwhelmed by heavy or persistent rain, with one lane and sometimes both impacted by standing water.
And that part of the road is once again affected by flooding on Friday morning, Traffic Scotland has warned.
In an alert first posted at 1.38am, but updated again at 5.47am, Traffic Scotland said: “
The southbound carriageway of the A9 at Raigmore Junction, Inverness, is currently affected by flooding. Motorists are advised to use caution on approach.”
