Highlands businesses issue warning over tourist tax

1. Highlands business leaders have warned that implementing a visitor levy across the region will have “significant negative consequences” for tourism.
A joint statement from the Inverness, Lochaber and Caithness chambers of commerce and the Cairngorms Business Partnership said there was a risk the tax would deter visitors and harm businesses which rely on tourism.
They called on Highland council to pause its plans to charge a 5 per cent tariff on overnight stays.
The statement said: “We believe that a well-considered and carefully implemented approach to tourism development is crucial for the long-term success of the Highlands.
