Scotland has revealed their 15-player squad with Heriot-Watt University partnering with the team for the upcoming U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025.
Ahead of the much-anticipated second edition of the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025, which will be held in Malaysia from January 13 to February 2, Scotland has announced its squad for the tournament. It will be the second consecutive appearance for the Scottish U19 Women’s side, having featured in the tournament’s inaugural edition in 2023.
Scotland made it to the tournament following regional qualification and will be part of Group D, alongside Australia, Bangladesh and Nepal, at the upcoming U19 World Cup.
The 15-player squad will initially fly to Dubai for a pre-tournament camp which includes training and warm-up matches before the squad heads to Malaysia on January 11 for the marquee event.
Scotland’s squad features a mix of dynamic young talent alongside experienced players with six out of the 15 players featuring in the first edition of the tournament. The following players were part of Scotland’s squad during the first edition of the tournament- Molly Barbour-Smith, Nayma Sheikh, Niamh Muir, Emma Walsingham, Maisie Maceira, and Kirsty McColl.
Scotland U19 Women’s Head Coach Kari Carswell expressed excitement at the squad announcement ahead of the 2025 U19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
Carswall acknowledged the vital support of Heriot-Watt University, emphasizing its continuing partnership with the Scotland women’s cricket which had also partnered with the senior women’s team that featured in the maiden World Cup appearance at the 2024 T20 World Cup.
“We are hugely grateful to Heriot-Watt University for their continued support of Scottish women’s cricket, and we are very much looking forward to visiting the campus and meeting the staff and students when we arrive in Malaysia,” said Carswell.
Later on, the head coach reflected on Scotland’s squad noting the mix of experience and talent with the presence of some of the players who competed at the World Cup in South Africa two years ago.
Carswell stated,” It’s exciting to finally announce our squad, which I think has a good mixture of experience and freshness, with some girls who had the opportunity to play at the World Cup in South Africa two years ago mixed in with a lot of new players.”
Carswell further added to the team’s combination with several players heading into the tournament on the back of strong performances.
“There’s plenty who’ve been in good form or who’ve come off a really positive summer, and I think we’ve got all bases covered in terms of our seam attack, spinners, top order batters and those in the middle and lower order. It’s a really exciting group and looking ahead there’s some who potentially have another U19 cycle to go through beyond this one, so that’s a big positive too”, she added.
Scotland will open their campaign against Australia in their opening match on January 18 at Kuala Lumpur.
