Scotland’s World Cup draw revealed as Clarke’s men could face Ronaldo rematch

SCOTLAND have learned their fate for the 2026 World Cup draw.

It’s a huge day for Steve Clarke‘s national team who haven’t featured at a major finals since 1998.

A hugely complicated draw process had to take into account the fact that certain matches, like Scotland, still had Nations League play-offs or quarter finals to contend with.

But the big news for Scotland fans is that we’ve landed a FOUR-team group.

And we’re in with Greece AGAIN despite the fact we face them in a Nations League play-off in March.

We’ll also take on the LOSERS of the Nations League quarter final between Portugal and Denmark.

We’ve faced both of them in recent times, with a goalless draw against the Portuguese at Hampden recently.

While Roberto Martinez‘s side will be favourites to win that match, it leaves open the possibility of an intriguing return match with Cristiano Ronaldo.

Scotland recorded a 2-0 home win over Denmark in their last World Cup qualification group, only to go out to Ukraine in the play-offs.

But they could be face a clash with former Celtic star Matt O’Riley, now of Brighton, who has been handed a call-up to the Scandinavian side in recent season.

They’ve also still got Hoops goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel between the sticks.

And the group is completed by Belarus, who have been playing their matches in Azerbaijan recently due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Winnes qualify as of right for the 48-team finals in 2026 in USA, Mexico and Canada – with all second placed finishers guaranteed at least a shot through the play-offs.
