Trains CANCELLED and do not travel warning issued as Storm Darragh strikes

SCOTS have been warned to stay put as Storm Darragh wreaks havoc, cancelling trains and ferries across the country.

The Met Office has slapped yellow weather warnings for rain and snow on Scotland, starting from 8pm tonight.

The fourth named storm of the season is set to unleash heavy rain, 80mph winds and up to 20cm of snow in some areas.

A “do not travel” warning will be in force tomorrow for Scotland.

CrossCountry rail operators have issued a travel warning for tomorrow, with train services expected to be delayed by up to an hour across the network.

The Edinburgh to Glasgow Central / Aberdeen route will be completely axed tomorrow, but prepaid tickets will be honoured until the end of service on Wednesday, December 11.

Scots ferry operator CalMac has also confirmed a raft of cancellations due to the fierce winds.

Routes hit include Gourock to Kilcreggan, Tarbert to Portavadie, and Ardmhor to Eriskay.

All remaining sailings for the Gourock to Kilcreggan service tonight have been scrapped.

The last sailing between Tarbert and Portavadie departed at 4:45pm this afternoon from Portavadie.

And for Ardmhor to Eriskay, all services are cancelled tomorrow.

It comes after nationwide rail chaos this morning.

Commuters faced cancellations and major delays earlier due to an onboard communication fault between train drivers and signal operators.
