SFA set to honour all-time Rangers legend ahead of crunch Scotland clash
SCOTTISH football bosses are set to pay tribute to Davie Cooper on the day the national team face Greece.
The Nations League play-off second leg at Hampden against the Greeks is on March 23.
That’s 30 years to the day since Cooper’s tragic death at the age of 39.
SFA bosses are ready to discuss marking the date by acknowledging the former Rangers and Motherwell winger, who won 22 caps for Scotland.
Cooper’s highpoint for the national side came in September 1985, when he scored from the penalty spot to earn Scotland a 1-1 draw with Wales at Ninian Park in a World Cup qualifier.
The result, however, was overshadowed by the death of manager Jock Stein after the match.

Scotland’s draw saw them through to face Australia in the qualification play-off for the Mexico ‘86 finals – with Cooper also scoring the opener in the 2-0 Hampden win over the Aussies.
Victory for the Scots against Greece would see Steve Clarke’s side remain in League A for the 2026-27 Nations League.
Meanwhile, Rangers boss Philippe Clement admits he doesn’t fear for his Ibrox future after staging positive talks with new Rangers chief executive Patrick Stewart.
After Saturday’s dismal draw with Dundee United the beleaguered Belgian admitted he has no credit left in the bank.
But ahead of his side’s Europa League clash against Nice – and after a weekend of wild speculation surrounding his position – Clement lifted the lid on the meeting with his incoming boss.
Clement revealed: “There were no board discussions.
“I had a meeting with the new CEO.
“It was a really good talk and that’s it. I’m not busy with my future.
“I’m busy with the team. I’m busy with getting results.
“It’s a very important thing because the last couple of months there was a big vacuum in the club and a lot of things could not be decided at that moment because there was nobody to decide those kinds of things.
“So I’m really happy that Patrick is here now.
“We had a really good talk about everything, about the past year, my experiences.”
