North Kessock star named in Scotland squad for World Team Championships

Greg Lobban has been named in Scotland’s squad for the squash World Team Championships next month.

The North Kessock native is Scotland’s top ranked male, breaking into the world’s top 20 this year and winning his 14th PSA title in Vancouver last month.

As a result, it is no surprise that he leads the Scottish men’s squad for the trip to Hong Kong, with action starting on December 9.

Lobban will be joined by fellow Highlander Alasdair Prott, as well as Elgin’s Martin Ross and Perth’s Rory Stewart.

That means three of the four members of Scotland’s 2023 men’s squad return for this year’s competition, with Munlochy’s Alan Clyne missing out after moving to the United States and focusing more on coaching than playing on the PSA Tour.

This year will be the first time the men’s and women’s competitions run at the same time, and the Scotland women’s squad has also been confirmed as Georgia Adderley, Alison Thomson, Ellie Jones and Robyn McAlpine.

Scottish Squash Elite Performance Coach Paul Bell said: “The World Team Championships is a fantastic opportunity for Scotland’s players to challenge themselves against the top nations in a team competition.

“This year provides a fantastic opportunity for the next generation of Scottish players to show what they can do against the world’s best, in the absence of Scottish Squash stalwarts Alan & Lisa.

“Having the men and women competing together brings a new but exciting dynamic to the event, which can showcase the strength and togetherness of the Scottish performance players.

“Everyone has worked incredibly hard to get to the event both on and off the court.

“To support the team’s participation we have received additional support and sponsorship from numerous partners, and everyone is excited to have the opportunity to repay the faith and support shown by Scotland’s squash community.”
