EasyJet launches new flights from Scotland to major European destination
EASYJET has announced the arrival of a brand new year-round route from Scotland to a popular European destination.
The budget airline‘s new route will commence next year and operate twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays.
The travel firm will also base a fresh A320 family aircraft at Edinburgh Airport from next summer.
It will be the 10th aircraft at the airport and will enable customers to have “more choice for flights and holidays across Europe and beyond”.
EasyJet confirmed on Wednesday that they’ll be flying passengers on the new service from Edinburgh to Zurich, Switzerland from May 2, 2025.
Fresh routes to Olbia, Dusseldorf, Marrakech and Enfidha from Edinburgh have also been introduced by the company in recent weeks.
Glasgow Airport will see two new routes to Antalya and Reus, starting from next summer.
The company has been flying out of Edinburgh Airport since 2001 and has 16 aircrafts based in Scotland.
In 2023, easyJet carried a record 8.2million passengers in Scotland, the largest yearly amount since operations began.
The airline’s bosses stated “the future of the company is bright”, as the company reports a huge increase of 34% in annual profits.
Ali Gayward, easyJet UK Country Manager, said:
“We are proud to be Scotland’s largest airline and our success in Scotland is a clear testament to the continued popularity of our flights and holidays.
“The growth of our fleet with an additional aircraft in Edinburgh will not only support around 400 jobs but is enabling us to further unlock the opportunity of the continuing demand that we see for both leisure and business travel in Scotland.”
Gayward believes the routes will provide Scottish customers with “even greater choice and connectivity”.
easyJet was founded in 1995 by Greek Cypriot entrepreneur, Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou.
The first inaugural flight took off in November 1995 from London Luton to Glasgow and Edinburgh. Since then the company has grown rapidly, introducing new international routes and bases across the UK and Europe.
Kate Sherry, Edinburgh Airport’s Chief Commercial Officer (Aero), said:
“We are delighted to see easyJet basing another aircraft at Edinburgh Airport for summer 2025.
“This is a testament to our commitment to expanding opportunities for passengers and adding connectivity to and from Scotland’s capital.”
