SPFL Trust launch new energy focused support in partnership with SGN – Scottish Business News
The SPFL Trust has unveiled its ‘Game Energy’ initiative, a collaborative effort with gas distribution network SGN to support people living in fuel poverty.
The Game Energy initiative will use the power and reach of football in Scotland to share vital information and provide resources related to energy efficiency, Carbon Monoxide safety and access to the Priority Service Register (PSR).
The PSR provides extra support and safeguarding to potentially vulnerable people to ensure uninterrupted service from utility companies, and specialist support in the event of issues.
SPFL Trust CEO Nicky Reid said: “We are thrilled to be working with SGN to deliver Game Energy.
“People all around the country are struggling with fuel poverty, so we know their input will make a real impact in supporting people financially, but also with their overall wellbeing.”
Margaret Hamilton, Community Partnership Manager at SGN, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with the SPFL Trust to provide essential energy support and safeguarding services to households across Scotland.
“This unique partnership will support households ahead of winter to use energy safely, efficiently and affordably while building a network of community hubs to provide further services to help address fuel poverty and the challenges households face.”
The project will focus on maximising engagement so as to deliver targeted support to those in greatest need. It is expected that almost all SPFL associated community trusts and clubs (ATCs) will play some part in the programme’s delivery, including:
- ATCs will distribute informative materials during their programmes, including leaflets on energy efficiency and Carbon Monoxide awareness
- Information will also be shared on social media and websites for broader outreach
- Awareness will be raised through discussions and workshops led by 30 ATCs, targeting vulnerable individuals
- Community hubs will be established in high-need areas, modelled on the Pittodrie Community Hub at Aberdeen Football Club Community Trust – with a further announcement to follow next year
