The Le Gruyère AOP European Curling Championships have now moved onto the medal finals, with Scotland winning the women’s bronze medal match-up on Friday afternoon, beating Italy by 6-4.

After three ends, the Scots led by 2-0. In the fourth, Italy skip Stefania Constantini had a nose-hit to score one but got the angle slightly wrong, to roll away and give Scotland a steal of one and a 3-0 lead.

Speaking later, Scotland’s skip Sophie Jackson said, “We felt really comfortable from quite early on. We feel in a really good spot now, we’ve been building, so we’re going to try to carry on this form now.”

She added, “That’s my first senior medal skipping, so it is really special, we’ve been in a good place this week and it feels really cool.”

The women’s gold medals will be decided on Saturday morning at 10.00 (EET), when defending champions Switzerland face Sweden.

The bronze medal winning Scottish team are skip and lead Sophie Jackson, fourth Rebecca Morrison, third Jennifer Dodds and second Sophie Sinclair, supported by alternate Fay Henderson and coach Ross Paterson.
