Scottish Government launch new Social Enterprise Action Plan – Scottish Business News

The new Social Enterprise Action Plan 2024-2026 has been launched by the Scottish Government setting out a bold vision to strengthen Scotland’s social enterprise ecosystem and foster innovation, inclusivity and sustainability.

The Action Plan outlines 17 key actions to be carried out over the next two years, prioritising collaboration and enhancing local networks and partnerships with organisations to boost investment.

The plan will see £3.2 million invested in the Social Entrepreneurs Fund over the next two years which seeks to expand opportunities for entrepreneurs, social enterprises and community groups. In addition, a pilot from the Social Growth Fund will offer 0% interest loans to help organisations manage short-term cash flow issues.

Social enterprises will also be promoted as mainstream business models, supported to embrace digital transformation and gain better access to funding and resources.

The plan launches a national Buy Social Scotland marketing campaign, promotes a directory to connect buyers and suppliers, and develops procurement consortia to help social enterprises secure larger contracts. Together, these initiatives aim to position Scotland’s social enterprises as key drivers of a fairer, greener, and more inclusive economy, setting a global example.

Employment and Investment Minister Tom Arthur said: “Social Enterprises play a vital part in the economy, helping us progress towards a society that is fairer, greener and more inclusive. It is fitting that we publish this Action Plan on Social Enterprise Day, as we celebrate Scotland’s position as a global leader in this sector.

“Changeworks is at the heart of building a more sustainable economy in Scotland, driving transformation in energy efficiency and helping tackle fuel poverty.

“The Scottish Government is committed to growing social enterprises around the country and I have enjoyed learning more about the vital work being done.”

The launch also coincided with Changeworks becoming the first social enterprise to sign up to the Buy Social Pledge, a new national initiative from Social Enterprise Scotland and supported by the Scottish Government that sees businesses commit to engage social enterprises in their supply chains and procurement opportunities.
