Scotland’s four potential Nations League play-off opponents confirmed

SCOTLAND will face one of four nations in a Nations League play-off next year to hold onto their place in League A.

Steve Clarke‘s men managed to give themselves a fighting chance to keep their spot at the top table after the late win in Poland meant they leapfrogged their opponents to take third position in the group.

There was a chance – albeit very slim – Scotland could finish runners-up in the group going into the final two fixtures, despite picking up just one point from the first four games.

The Dark Blues did all they could to try and pull off the miracle by winning their back-to-back matches against Croatia and Poland.

But they needed the showdown between Croatia and Portugal to go their way…and it sadly didn’t.

However, their monumental turnaround in the second round of fixtures mean they could still feature in League A when the next Nations League campaign gets underway.

Scotland now face a play-off to avoid relegation against one of the four teams who finished runners-up in League B.

And Clarke and his team now know which four countries they could potentially face.

We already knew Greece and Austria were two potential opponents after their groups drew to a close earlier in the week.

But now the other two have been confirmed after the final groups were wrapped up tonight.

Who can Scotland face in the relegation play-offs?

Scotland will face one of the following four nations:

  • Greece
  • Austria
  • Ukraine
  • Turkey

When will Scotland’s opponents be confirmed?

  • The draw will take place on November 22 – after the Nations League quarter-final draw which starts at 11am UK time.
  • You can stream the draw on the Uefa website.

How do the relegation play-offs work?

  • Scotland will face one of the League B group winners in the relegation play-off.
  • It is a two-legged tie where the winners will secure a spot in League A, the losers will play the next campaign in League B.

When will the play-off matches be played?

  • Play-offs will take place on March 20 and March 23.
