£30m gift to turn ex-student union into innovation hub

1. A former university union building is to be turned into an entrepreneurial hub in a £30 million overhaul funded by an alumnus.

The ten-storey University of Strathclyde site on John Street in Glasgow has lain empty since 2020 but will now be named the Charles Huang Advanced Technology and Innovation Centre.

Huang, the Chinese-American founder of the private equity firm Pasaca Capital and the owner of Innova, a biotech company that sold Covid-19 lateral flow tests to the government, donated £50 million to the university through his foundation in 2021.
