Andy Robertson reveals his personal mission to ensure Ben Doak reaches the top
ANDY ROBERTSON has revealed he’s mentoring Ben Doak to make sure he fulfils his Scotland potential.
Doak, who turned 19 this week, has four caps after breaking into Steve Clarke’s squad.
But skipper Robbo reckons his Liverpool team-mate – on loan at Middlesbrough – is set for stardom in the national team.
And he’s determined to help the teenage sensational as much as he can.
Robertson said: “I’m always on Doaky just because of the Liverpool connection.
“I just like being on him and trying to get the best out of him.

“The wee man’s flying and he’s doing so well, which is great to see.
“He’s got a bright future ahead of him.”
Robbo has also told how he’s also a calming influence on Napoli ace Billy Gilmour.
He added: “I always need to look after Billy at times.
“He can get angry on the training pitch at times. So sometimes I need to put my arm round him to calm him down.
“But no, the young lads are great.
“They’re a breath of fresh air.
“And we’re very lucky to have them and a mix of experience.
“The experienced lads look after the young lads – they look out for them, they try and help them.
“And I think that’s why we’ve got such a good group. We’ve got that perfect balance.”
Roberston is set to hit 80 caps against Croatia and Poland and become the third most Scotland player of all time behind Jim Leighton and Kenny Dalglish.
He added: “I made my very first debut in Poland, and it’ll be nice to go back there to then hit my 80th gap.
“It’s been a huge honour being able to represent Scotland.
“I want to play for Scotland as long as I can, and I want to get as many caps as I can.
“And to be able to go in the top three is massive for me.
“And then hopefully I can chase after the other two.”
Robertson is dreaming of World Cup qualification before he hangs up his boots.
In an interview on the Scotland National Team YouTube channel, he added: “We feel as if our performances probably haven’t got the points that we probably deserve, which is disappointing.
“I think last camp was a lot better.
“Getting a draw against Portugal at home was pleasing.
“But we have to go into these ones now looking to get a win on the board and see where it takes us.
“We’ve worked so hard to get to League 1.
“Then you get a group where you’re playing against some really good teams and really tough teams.
“It will stand us in good stead for when the qualifying campaign comes up.
“We’ve been getting better and better at playing against them and causing them a bit more problems.
“And that’s what we need to take into the World Cup campaign.”
“We’re all hungry to get to the World Cup.
“But we also know how difficult it is to do that.
“And we’ll see what our group’s like.

“But I believe the belief is still there.
“We’ve still got a lot of quality in the squad, and as long as everyone’s fit and available, then we’ll have a chance and we can give anyone a game on our day.”
