Sammi and Chloe pick up Scottish Women in Sport Awards – Scottish Athletics
Athletics took home two awards at this evening’s Scottish Women in Sport Awards.
Taking place at the Radisson Blu in Glasgow, the evening celebrated some of the incredible women making a difference to sport in Scotland and beyond.
Showing the strength and depth of athletics in Scotland, it was great to see local hero Chloe Emordy recognised alongside International Superstar Samantha Kinghorn.
Sammi collected the award for Para Athlete of the Year, recognising her incredible season which culminated in five Paralympic medals, including Gold in the T53 100m.
Sammi got involved in wheelchair racing in 2011, following an accident the previous year that left her paralysed.
She represents Red Star Athletics Club and is coached by Rodger Harkins.
Her rise to the top has been in the works over a decade. She was selected for a first Commonwealth Games in 2014, before representing Paralympics GB in Rio and Tokyo, winning a silver and bronze medal at the latter before making it on to the top spot this year.
Sammi also participated in a Special Guest Q & A as part of the evening with presenter Heather Dewar.

Chloe was recognised to her ongoing contribution to her club, Springburn Harriers, as well as to Scottish Athletics as a whole.
She has taken on one of the club’s Combined Event competition groups this year, planning fun and inclusive sessions while involving and supporting her athletes and fellow coaches.
Chloe has also qualified as a Level 1 Field Official Scottish Athletics and has supported many league competitions and schools events in this capacity.
Currently completing her degree in Sports Coaching and Development, Chloe persuaded one of her fellow students to volunteer with the club, with that student also now having joined the coaching team.
She is passionate about giving a voice to young people in the club, asking to join the club committee so this age group was represented.
She was also a member of the first cohort of our Young People’s Forum, and has stayed on as a mentor for cohort two.
Congratulations again to Sammi and Chloe on all their achievements this year.
