Drivers are being warned to be cautious on Sunday after the clocks change – as it doesn’t just mean you’ll be getting one less hour of sleep.

The AA is warning that car crashes spiked in the fortnight after the clocks changed last year – so they’re urging drivers to be vigilant this year.

Darker evenings, slippery road surfaces and the low-lying sun impairing drivers’ vision all contribute towards increased collisions in late October and early November, they warned.

Meanwhile, on the rails in Scotland, a signal fault at Larbert is causing more delays on routes between Inverness or Aberdeen and Glasgow Queen Street.

Another fault with the signalling system at Linlithgow has disrupted the line towards Edinburgh, causing problems for ScotRail services running between Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh via Falkirk High.

And in Wales there is disruption across various routes for the third day in a row due to slippery rails, causing delays and cancellations.

Buses are still replacing trains between Shrewsbury and Machynlleth after a train crash on Monday evening.

Since then, rail services are unable to operate between Shrewsbury and Machynlleth. The line will be closed until at least the end of Friday (October 25), with replacement road transport in place.

Customers planning to use the line this week should expect delays to their journeys between Shrewsbury and Machynlleth, and plan ahead where possible.

Services between Machynlleth and Pwllheli are able to run as normal. Services are also running between Machynlleth and Aberystwyth.

The main road through Llanbrynmair (between Caersws and Machynlleth is closed to help with the recovery of the incident. This means that buses have to take a detour, resulting in extended journey times.

Connecting trains to Aberystwyth / Pwllheli will wait for the buses to arrive at Machynlleth.
