Storm Ashley wreaks travel chaos as roads & rail hit by fallen trees & debris

SCOTLAND’S rush hour has been thrown into chaos this morning after Storm Ashley wreaked havoc overnight.

The first named storm of the season has caused travel chaos after the country was battered by extreme weather and 80mph winds.

Train lines have been affected, roads have been closed off and plane and ferry journeys across the country have been cancelled.

The Met Office issued severe amber and yellow warnings for wind yesterday, which are in place until around 9am today.

Heavy rain and huge gusts ravaged the nation, with the Highlands, Eilean Siar and Strathclyde mong the worst affected areas.

And it sparked major disruption to rail services after it caused trees and large branches to fall on a number of tracks.
