Steve Clarke’s side banished to YouTube as they play Nations League catch up

STEVE CLARKE and Scotland worked hard over successive campaigns to book their spot in the top section of the Nations League.

But they’ve already got their work cut out to stay there and reserve a major advantage in World Cup qualifying for 2026.

Despite two encouraging performances, two instalments of late heartache saw the Scots go down 3-2 at home to Poland and 2-1 away to Portugal.

The four best-ranked group winners from the Nations League who don’t finish in the top two of their World Cup qualifying groups are secure of at least a play-off place to reach the finals in North America.

Croatia‘s World Cup record is impeccable, with third place and runners-up finishes at the last two finals.

They also eliminated Scotland from Euro 2020 on our own patch, killing off the national team’s hopes at Hampden with a 3-1 victory but they failed to make it out of the group stages at Euro 2024.
