IT was an impressive evening for Scotland’s transport operators at the National Transport Awards.

The 21st annual event was held at the Westminster Park Plaza in London on 3rd October 2024 andcelebrated remarkable accomplishments and acknowledged the dedication, innovation, and efficiency within the UK transport industry. With 600 distinguished guests in attendance, the evening featured a keynote address delivered by Local Transport Minister Simon Lightwood MP.

Lothian Buses clinched the prestigious UK Bus Operator of the Year award, while Edinburgh Trams secured the title of UK Tram Operator of the Year. Meanwhile, McGill’s Bus Group was recognised for providing the Best Bus Service with their Glasgow Nightbus.

First Bus driver David Copley was honoured with the Frontline Employee of the Year award. His intervention, along with the support of other passengers, ensured the safety of the child involved. As a result, First Bus North & West Yorkshire has taken a stand against child abuse by supporting the NSPCC’s Listen Up, Speak Up campaign.

Glasgow Airport received a commendation to add to their Scottish Airport of the Year title at the 2024 Scottish Transport Awards.

Anthony Smith, Chair of the Judging Panel said:

“What a 12 months! A new Government, epic weather, an upcoming budget, bus and rail reform, tough times for money people, riots, staff shortages and spiralling costs.

Through all that, transport folk have played a critical role in keeping the country’s infrastructure moving smoothly. From maintaining roads and airports to ensuring buses, trains, and ferries operate efficiently, their dedication is evident. Amidst the daily challenges, they’ve consistently innovated, embraced diversity, and moved forward.

So, a big thank you to all the dedicated transport people who play a crucial role in keeping our nation functioning smoothly. Your hard work and commitment ensure that essential goods are delivered, people can commute to work, and the economy remains operational. Your efforts do not go unnoticed and are truly appreciated.

The National Transport Awards are a celebration of that human endeavour. Well done all, whether you won, were a runner up or entered. Now start your engines for National Transport Awards 2025!”
