Was it a birdie? Michael Douglas and Kathryn Newton look pleased with themselves during day one of the Alfred Dunhill golf championship in Scotland while Bill Murray ends up in the long grass

Michael Douglas punched the air with joy as he celebrated a putt during day one of the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Carnoustie in Scotland on Thursday.

The American actor, 80, was joined on the golf course by Big Little Lies star Kathryn Newton, 27, and Emmy Award winner Bill Murray, 74.

Fatal Attraction star Michael looked pleased with himself as he made the putt on the 17th green.

He cut a smart figure in a black jumper and grey trousers as the rain held off as he played on the famous Scottish course.

Michael kept comfortable in a pair of white trainers and opted for a navy baseball cap with a pair of sunglasses placed on top.

He looked in his element as he concentrated on the game while spectators snapped photos of him.

Meanwhile Kathryn looked happy with her game as she flashed a smile after teeing off on the course.

The Ant-Man 3 star looked every inch the part in a navy, red and white stripped jumper which she teamed with black trousers and a navy flat cap.

She kept comfortable in a pair of coordinated lace up shoes and opted for a large pair of dark sunglasses.

Kathryn tied her long blonde tresses back out of her face as she beamed while playing in front of fans.

However Ghostbusters star Bill looked disappointed as he hit a bad shot into the fescue.

He was seen attempting to get his ball back onto the green before throwing his putter into the air.

Bill wrapped up for the round of golf in a pink winter hat which he teamed with a green jumper and black trousers.
