The Rangers and Scotland legend has reinvented himself as one of the game’s top pundits and he’s been recognised for his services to football and broadcasting.

He previously received an MBE back in 1994.

McCoist decided against wearing the kilt in favour of a smart suit.

Watched by members of his family at his investiture ceremony at the famous Berkshire castle, he said he was humbled by the occasion.

He said: “Such a proud moment for myself and my family, I am humbled to be receiving my OBE from Prince William at Windsor Castle today.

“Thank you for all the support and messages it means so much.

“I managed to get a suit. The lads were having a little bit of fun at my expense, saying the suits that I used to wear are a little bit tighter on me than they are now.

“But the main thing was I had to get one organised for today and I managed to do that thankfully.

“I was very very lucky because one thing the Prince of Wales is well versed in is the fact he knows his sport, he certainly knows his football.

“I had met him before on one occasion, we met on a flight to Aberdeen so we spoke about that and we spoke about his own team, he’s a big Aston Villa, they’ve got a big game tonight, and he was obviously interested to see how the family was doing, how the boys were doing. We had a lovely little chat.

“This is a fantastic place, it really is. The most important thing for me, is my family is down with them and I am blessed with the chance and opportunity to share it with them.”

Proud Scotsman Ally revealed he sought help from his favourite barber to look the part for his big day as he explained why he had decided against donning the kilt.

He quipped: “It’s controversial.

“If the wind blew my kilt up they would be flocking from everywhere to Windsor Castle.

“My wee pal in Paisley gave me a right seeing to with the open razor.”
