Growth ensures Scots construction firm success on council housing framework – Scottish Business News
A Scottish construction firm has successfully expanded its presence on the coveted Scotland Excel New Build Residential Construction framework, mirroring the company’s impressive growth.
The JR Group has been named an approved contractor across the Scottish mainland, therefore Scottish Councils and Housing Associations looking to appoint a construction company to create new build housing, can call upon their expertise.
The framework is a stringent and vigorous process enabling public sector bodies to procure new build developments in order to meet the needs of the Scottish affordable housing sector.
The outcome of the tender bid could be a lucrative opportunity for The JR Group. Andrew Dallas, Project Director, said: “It is estimated the framework will generate £375m worth of work per annum and we will be able to tender for all projects that come up across the nine regions we applied for over the next two years. The framework is also split into five lots spanning small projects of between one and 16 units, up to projects for more than 81 homes.
“We have previously been included on the framework but growth within The JR Group has meant that we have now been included on all lots. This is a fantastic success for us and has the real potential to provide us with a lot of work delivering new homes for local council authorities and housing associations across the mainland of Scotland.
“We have a great reputation for reliability and building high quality homes and can deliver a seamless project with our in-house divisions such as DC Timber Systems which design, manufacture and erect full timber frame kits required for building homes.
“With Scotland in urgent need of more housing, we are delighted to be able to help bring more homes to life through the framework and look forward to completing projects over the next two years.”
The most recent project completed by The JR Group as part of the company’s previous inclusion in the framework was a collection of energy efficient new homes at Glasgow Road in Stirling which was completed and handed over to Stirling Council in the summer.
The £2 million project saw the creation of one- and two-bedroom main door flats, each with their own door access, garden space and parking, on the site of former high-rise flats which were demolished in 2022.
Andrew added: “Framework projects like Glasgow Road in Stirling have helped us to really demonstrate the quality of our work. Sustainability was a key focus, and these homes include features to ensure they are as energy efficient as possible such as triple glazed windows, photovoltaic (PV) panels with battery storage, and automatic fire suppression systems.
“The award will mean we can undertake larger projects, ensuring more of Scotland’s new affordable homes are built to our exacting standards.”
Founded in Govan in 1995, and now based in Paisley, The JR Group started as a scaffolding business and has grown to become one of Scotland’s largest building and construction firms – employing around 200 staff. The JR Group has a proven track record of delivering outstanding projects for leading UK housebuilders, registered social landlords and private clients across Scotland and the North of England.
