Edinburgh Castle named most Instagrammable haunted place in world

Now Edinburgh Castle has been named as the most ‘Instagrammable’ haunted place in the world in a new poll.

The ranking, conducted by researchers at online comparison service Cryptorush ahead of Halloween, used Instagram hashtag data to identify the 38 most Instagrammable haunted places in the world. 

The eerie spots blend history, architecture, and ghostly legends, making them both haunting and photogenic.

The top 10 locations have garnered a combined total of over 2.2 million hashtags, highlighting their popularity and appeal to both tourists and social media users alike.

With 747,235 hashtags, Edinburgh Castle topped the list, ahead of the Tower of London in second place (702,832 hashtags) and Lawang Sewu in Indonesia in third place (329,558 hashtags).

A spokesperson from Cryptorush commented: “It’s always fascinating to see the history behind these so-called ‘haunted’ places. Human curiosity is naturally drawn to the eerie and mysterious, and these locations capture the imagination.

“Whether it’s the tragic tales of former residents or the unexplained events that have occurred there, people are captivated by the stories.

“Halloween is the perfect time to explore how these ghostly legends have been shaped by time and culture, while also capturing their haunting beauty on Instagram.”
