Aidan Borland made his pro debut on Tuesday night in Villa’s 2-1 EFL Cup win over Wycombe Wanderers.

He came on as a second half sub for £50m man Amadou Onana in the 62nd minute, with Villa leading 1-0 at the time in the third round clash.

The 17-year-old midfielder wasn’t fazed by the occasion and supporters loved his impact.

So much so that one even compared him to Real Madrid legend Luka Modric.

After the game ended, Villa fans expressed their excitement on social media after having watched the talented prospect in action at Adams Park.

One said: “Borland was the one to catch my eye. Chased and harassed the opposition without the ball, protected it well when we had it. Looked promising.”

Another fan said: “Borland looked very good, good control and passing.”

A third said of his performance: “Borland impressive when coming on. Strong and kept possession under pressure.”

And a fourth commented: “Aidan Borland can be very proud of his performance on debut. Very neat and assured on the ball.”

Indeed, many of the comments seemed to reflect how composed Borland was after being introduced.

“Thought Borland looked tidy when he came on for Onana. Despite his stature, he imposed himself well in that midfield,” said one fan.

“Borland looks like some player. Calm on the ball, nothing fancy and was absolutely everywhere on the pitch,” said another.

One supporter recalled watching Borland with Villa’s Under-23s when he was just 16, describing the match as a “walk in the park” for the former Celtic youngster.

“Aidan Borland just wait on him,” they began. “Seen him last season against Forest 23s and it was a walk in the park for him. He was 16. Very good signing from Villa.”

But by far the highest piece of praise came from a fan who likened the Scotland youth international to Croatia hero Modric.

They wrote: “I liked Borland a lot… very tidy. Reminds me of Modric (I know I know).”

Borland made the switch from Glasgow’s East End to the Birmingham giants last year for a fee of around £300,000.
