Sustainable aviation firm ZeroAvia receives £20m backing from SNIB

ZeroAvia’s hydrogen technology could be used on planes to the Highlands and Islands

1. The Scottish National Investment Bank is backing a sustainable aviation firm with £20 million.

ZeroAvia was formed in the United States and is developing zero-emission hydrogen-electric engines for commercial aircraft. It has plans to establish a manufacturing facility in Scotland using the funding from the SNIB.

Short routes in the Highlands and Islands have been earmarked as having the potential to use that type of technology.

ZeroAvia has a partnership with Glasgow and Aberdeen airports as well as an agreement with Scottish Power to develop low-carbon hydrogen supplies for aviation hubs.
