Scotland star Lewis Ferguson makes huge decision on his future

SCOTLAND ace Lewis Ferguson has been linked with a whole host of huge clubs since taking Italian football by storm.

But it appears as though he won’t be going anywhere soon.

Ferguson joined Bologna from Aberdeen back in July 2022 and he’s gone from strength to strength.

Quickly establishing himself as a key player, Ferguson signed a new contract just a year later running until 2027.

After another stellar start to a campaign last season, Ferguson became Bologna captain last October.

Leading from the middle of the park, Ferguson led Bologna to Champions League qualification for the first time with a 5th placed finish.

A serious knee injury suffered in April, however, prematurely ended Ferguson’s season and cruelly ruled him out of going to Euro 2024.

It’s still likely to be some months before he’s able to return to action.

Ferguson’s stellar showings for Bologna had led to several huge clubs being linked with him.

Milan giants AC and Inter, Juventus and Napoli were ALL credited with having an interest in the former Hamilton Accies kid before his injury blow.

His horror ACL injury meant no bids were made during the summer and he remains a Bologna player.

There’s been plenty of talk in Italy too that Ferguson is set to commit his long term future to the club despite the intensifying transfer interest.

And now it appears that IS the case.

Ferguson’s dad – former Rangers midfielder Derek – has let slip that Ferguson HAS agreed a new contract at Bologna.

He’s revealed the midfield ace has renewed his deal that will see him stay there until 2029.

Addressing Lewis’ injury recovery, Derek told this week’s episode of the Let Me Be Frank podcast by betideas.com: “If you look at an ACL – and it wasn’t just his ACL, he did his medial as well – it’s somewhere between nine and 12 months.

“But it’s just when I saw the footage. I’ve watched it numerous times, and I’m looking at it thinking, should he be moving like that at that stage? But it’s totally different from our day.

“I don’t want to get too excited, but inside I am. I’m going over to see him next week for five or six days.”

“So the rehab is going very well, and they’ve just renewed his contract; he’s there until 2029.

“They are full on the way they have looked after him. The rehab place is right next to where Bologna train.

“The boy who made the tackle ended up in the rehab place after hurting himself. He came over and apologised to Lewis but there was no apology required because it wasn’t intentional – just a split-second thing.

“It just shows you what can happen in a split second. His foot was planted, wrong moment, wrong time.

“But it was horrible because of the Euros coming up.”
