Australia thrashed Scotland by seven wickets in the first T20I of the three-match T20I series at Grange Cricket Club. The Mitchell Marsh-led side chased down a target of 155 in less than 10 overs registering a record spree on Wednesday.  Australia star opener Travis Head smashed 80 runs in 25 balls.

Scotland’s Modest Total

After being asked to bat, Scotland’s George Munsey’s 28, skipper Berrington’s 23 and wicketkeeper batter Matthew Cross’s 27 managed to put a respectable score of 154 for 9 wickets in their 20 overs. Sean Abbott was the pick of the bowlers by picking up three wickets. Xavier Bartlett and Adam Zampa also took two wickets each. Meanwhile Riley Meredith and Cameron Green took one scalp each.

The target of 154 seemed too little for the mighty Australians as they chased it down in 9.4 overs. Australia’s debutant Jake Fraser McGurk was dismissed on a duck by Brandon McMullen which led Marsh-Head to build a partnership taking over the Scotland bowler in powerplay. Travis Head slaughtered the bowlers scoring 80 on 25 balls at a strike rate of 320 while Marsh continued the momentum scoring 39 of 12 balls at a whopping strike rate of 325. Australia lost three wickets in the inning with Mark Watt being the pick of the bowlers taking 2 wickets.
