Unplugged in Stornoway’ event aims to drive tech entrepreneurship – Scottish Business News

People interested in developing and applying their ideas on the use of technology to start or grow a business are being invited to an event in Stornoway next week on Thursday 12 September.

The ‘Unplugged in Stornoway’ event is being organised by CodeBase, who run the Scottish Government’s technology startup programme Techscaler.

Anyone interested in the tech startup scene, from seasoned entrepreneurs, tech professionals, creatives, students, and anyone else with an interest in startups, is invited to attend.

Participants will learn more about the opportunities available to entrepreneurs in the Highlands and Islands through Techscaler.

Mark Sutherland, head of regional engagement for Techscaler in the Highlands and Islands, said:

The event will include the launch of a new Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) Techscaler Kickstart grant scheme.

This will run until March 2025 and offer grants of £5,000 to £10,000 to help ambitious tech founders and entrepreneurs develop their ideas for business applications.

Rachel Hunter, HIE director of enterprise and community support, said: “The creative application of technology is a key driver of business growth and can be particularly impactful in rural areas.

“We’re delighted to be working with CodeBase to support Techscaler clients by providing a grant scheme that will complement the support on offer and look forward to meeting existing and potential tech entrepreneurs in Stornoway.”
