According to reports in the Herald, 98.7% of public spaces on the island group are mostly litter-free – the highest in the country.

Lerwick was crowned the cleanest place in the country, reports the Daily Express.

The island has several picturesque beaches alongside charming bars and cafes that attract thousands of tourists.

Elsewhere the “cheapest chippy” in Glasgow has hit the market – and it can be snapped up for a bargain price.

The popular greasy spoon takeaway has been put up for sale in the hope of attracting new owners.

The much-loved fish and chip shop first opened over 70 years ago and is regarded as one of the best cafes in the city.

It has been put on the market by estate agents Smith and Clough, who describe it as “extremely well-established and something of a Glasgow institution”.

Current owner Paddy Quinn took over the business in 2020 after the former boss retired.

But four years later they have been forced to cease trading because of other business commitments.

The Criterion Cafe is in walk-in condition and was recently refurbished, which saw the premises designed and fitted to a good standard.
