Scott McKenna could make Las Palmas debut against Liverpool

Scott McKenna has followed Scotland team-mate Oli McBurnie to La Liga club Las Palmas, signing a three-year contract after leaving Nottingham Forest.

And the 27-year-old centre-half could make his first appearance for the Gran Canaria outfit on familiar territory as they play their final pre-season friendly behind closed doors against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

McKenna ended the season on loan to FC Copenhagen, playing 15 times as they finished third in the Danish Superliga, following a contract dispute with Forest before being released after four years with the Premier League club.

The Angus-born defender, who has been capped 37 times and was in the Scotland squad at Euro 2024, had joined Forest from Aberdeen, where he progressed from the youth ranks to first team.

Welcoming him to the club, Las Palmas’ website described him as being “known for his aerial ability, strength, aggression, character and speed”.

McBurnie, who earned the last of his 16 Scotland caps in 2021, joined Las Palmas last month after leaving Sheffield United following their relegation from the Premier League.

He and McKenna will be tasked with keeping Luis Carrion’s side clear of relegation trouble after they finished 16th of 20 teams last season.

McBurnie has already played in pre-season friendly wins over Saudi Arabian side Al Shabab, fourth-tier Union Sur Yaiza and fifth-tier Tamaraceite.
