Retailer in Scots shopping centre reveals ‘last day’ before opening new branch
A MAJOR retailer in a Scots shopping centre has revealed its “last day of trading” as it prepares to relocate.
Independent menswear brand Remus Uomo was founded in 1991 and is inspired by an Italian sense of style and tailoring.
But the retailer’s branch in Silverburn Shopping Centre in Glasgow is set to close in the coming weeks.
A notice on the window of the store shared the disappointing news with customers, reports the Glasgow Times.
It reads: “Our last day of trade within Silverburn Shopping Centre is Wednesday, June 26.
“Thank you to all our customers.”
It comes after signs appeared in May suggesting the shop would be relocating.
It read: “The signs said: “Relocation clearance – up to 50 per cent off.
“Stock clearance event.”
The brand says it will reveal its new Glasgow location soon, adding: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers over the past 16 years and we look forward to seeing you in our brand new store.”
Retailers have been feeling the squeeze since the pandemic, while shoppers are cutting back on spending due to the soaring cost of living crisis.
High energy costs and a move to shopping online after the pandemic are also taking a toll, and many high street shops have struggled to keep going.
The high street has seen a whole raft of closures over the past year, and more are coming.
The number of jobs lost in UK retail dropped last year, but 120,000 people still lost their employment, figures have suggested.

The iconic thoroughfare once welcomed shoppers from across the country for a day of retail, entertainment, food and drink.
However in recent years, the shopping hot spot has plummeted into a depressing decline with rows of boarded-up shops and graffiti-clad buildings.
