RAF Personnel Ride NC500 for The Archie Foundation – Scottish Business News

Service personnel to raise funds and awareness for local children’s charity by completing the North Coast 500 in less than 24 hours

RAF personnel based at RAF Lossiemouth are swapping the airfield for the open road this August as they take on Scotland’s ultimate road trip for charity.

On Friday, August 23, Scott Norcliffe, Gordon Chisholm, Colin Jackson and Mathew Zglobis will take on the mammoth task of completing the North Coast 500 on motorbikes – in less than 24 hours.

The four friends plan to ride the iconic 516-mile route to raise awareness and funds for The Archie Foundation.

The idea for the charity fundraiser was dreamt up by Scott, who explained: “Every year we try and help a local charity and this year we have chosen to support The Archie Foundation. Not only do they provide a wide range of vital support and services to the people of north-east Scotland, the team at Archie also help those who have chosen to live in the area, or who have been stationed here.

“Similar to service personnel throughout Scotland, many of the families who are based at RAF Lossiemouth are living far away from their friends and extended family. The emotional and financial help that The Archie Foundation can provide if a child is unwell or needs medical assistance, is invaluable to service families as they often don’t have big support networks locally.”

The bikers will leave Inverness at 6am on August 23 and aim to return to the city less than 24 hours later, having taken in the wild beauty of the Black Isle, Caithness, Sutherland, Easter Ross, Wester Ross and Inverness-shire.

Paula Cormack, chief executive of The Archie Foundation, said: “The Archie Foundation exists to provide much needed support and services to people throughout north-east Scotland, whether they were born here, have chosen to make the area their home, or as is the case for our friends at RAF Lossiemouth, they have been stationed here.

“Our aim is to ensure that all children throughout the north-east of Scotland have equal access to world-class healthcare and bereavement support and we are delighted that Scott, Gordon, Colin and Mathew are raising both funds and awareness for The Archie Foundation so that even more people will know that they can turn to us for help.”

The team will navigate the extreme North of Scotland and take in stunning coastal scenery and mountains as they complete their epic challenge. Visit https://www.gofundme.com/f/the-archie-foundation-nc500 to support their fundraising efforts.
