Aussie star Giddey traded in NBA stunner

Australian basketball star Josh Giddey has been traded by his NBA team in a move set to breathe new life into his stuttering career.

ESPN reporter Adrian Wojnarowski says Giddey will join the Chicago Bulls after being traded from Oklahoma City Thunder.

In exchange the Thunder will reportedly land two-time All-Defensive guard Alex Caruso for next season.

Giddey, 21, is regarded as Australia’s most exciting men’s basketball export since Ben Simmons, who was picked first in the 2016 NBA draft.

Giddey joined the Thunder with pick No.6 in the 2021 draft.

The 210-centimetre Melbourne product plays point guard.

Giddey is still on his NBA rookie contract but is set to pocket about $12.4 million next season from that alone.

He will be a restricted free agent once his rookie contract expires.

He enjoyed a boom 2022-23 NBA season but saw his on-court minutes and his form drop this year.

In November he was investigated by police and the NBA over allegations he had an inappropriate relationship with an underage woman.

The allegations followed videos being leaked on social media, and Giddey was from then on regularly booed during NBA games.

Police and the NBA dropped the investigations and found Giddey had no case to answer.

He’s expected to suit up for the Boomers at next month’s Paris Olympics.
