1. Highlands business leaders have made a pitch for the region to become the home of Labour’s new GB Energy company.

Representatives from local authorities, universities, Inverness Chamber of Commerce and the Inverness and Cromarty Firth Green Freeport have written to Ed Miliband, the minister for energy security and net zero.

While Labour has committed to setting up GB Energy with a Scottish headquarters, it has yet to identify exactly where that might be.

The letter to Miliband points out how a large proportion of wind power and pumped hydro storage schemes will be located in the Highlands while the port infrastructure in the area is also key
