Glasgow City: Lisa Evans returns to former club after 12 years

Scotland winger Lisa Evans felt she “owed it” to Glasgow City after agreeing to return on a three-year contract.

The 32-year-old, capped 109 times, left City 12 years ago, enjoying title successes with Bayern Munich and Arsenal along the way.

“I’m absolutely buzzing to be back,” said Evans, who won eight trophies during her initial four-year stint in Glasgow.

“It’s been a while and I know things have changed massively with the club.

“Having started my journey in professional football with Glasgow City it was always something that I wanted to do, to come back and be part of it all again. I wanted to give back to the club everything that they have done for me.

“I’ve had a great playing career in Germany and down south and I felt like I owed it in some way to come back and to help Glasgow City get success again.”

City clinched their 16th title in 2023 but went without a trophy last season, finishing third in the SWPL, nine points behind winners Celtic and runners-up Rangers.

Head coach Leanne Ross played alongside Evans for City and Scotland and said her former team-mate is “still a top talent, with a wealth of experience”.

“With the ability to play full-back, wing-back or winger, Lisa’s quality and versatility will be a major asset,” added Ross.

“I can’t wait to work with her once again and see the positive influence she can have on our players and environment.”

Evans joined Turbine Potsdam on her departure from Scotland, moving to German rivals Bayern Munich in 2015.

She joined Arsenal two years later before switching to West Ham in 2021, initially on loan.

In January, she signed for Bristol City until the summer of 2025 but that deal was cut short in May.
