Scotland vs. Hungary expected lineups, starting 11, team news: Defensive issues mount for Clarke as Scots seek history | Sporting News United Kingdom
Scotland have the chance to make history at Euro 2024, but defensive problems have hampered their preparations for a win-or-go-home Group A decider with Hungary on Sunday.
Already facing something of a headache at the back following the red card shown to Ryan Porteous in the opening 5-1 hammering against Germany, coach Steve Clarke was dealt a further blow on the eve of the final pool clash after Kieran Tierney flew home with a hamstring problem.
The Arsenal man was forced off on a stretcher in the 1-1 draw with Switzerland that kept Scotland’s hopes alive of progressing to the knockout stages of a major tournament for the first time in their history, and he will play no further part in the competition.
A win for either of these sides would give them a chance of progressing as one of the best third-place sides, but Hungary will need to show more than in their consecutive two-goal defeats (3-1 to Switzerland and 2-0 against Germany) if they are to mount an unlikely qualification bid.

Scotland vs. Hungary predicted lineups, starting 11, team news
Scotland’s defensive options have been dealt a further blow with the news that Kieran Tierney has been ruled out. The Arsenal man flew home from Germany on Thursday. Scott McKenna is likely to deputise in a back five.
Ryan Porteous remains suspended following his red card in the opening defeat against Germany, although he would be available if Scotland were to make the knockout stages. Billy Gilmour should keep his place in midfield.
Scotland projected starting lineup (3-4-1-2, right to left): Gunn (GK) — Hendry, Hanley, McKenna — Ralston, Gilmour, McGregor, Robertson — McTominay — Adams, McGinn.
Injured: Tierney
Suspended: Porteous
For Hungary, coach Marco Rossi knows that his team must go all out to attack against the Scots and could make changes to offer more forward threat.
Martin Adam looks the most likely to be given a chance from the start if Rossi does opt for changes, while there may also be reason to throw caution to the wind with Bendeguz Bolla again deployed in a right wing-back role in what could be an intriguing matchup with Scotland captain Andrew Robertson.
Hungary projected starting lineup (3-4-1-2, right to left): Gulacsi (GK) — Fiola, Orban, Dardai — Bolla, Nagy, Schafer, Kerkez — Szoboszlai — Adam, Varga.
Injured: Nego, Balogh
Suspended: None
