When is the Euro 2024 Opening Ceremony?
As yet there is no official confirmation on all the plans for the Opening Ceremony on June 14, but UEFA have confirmed there will be an “opening concert” held in Stuttgart to celebrate Euro 2024 a day earlier, on June 13.
That took place at Schlossplatz in Stuttgart and included a host of top local artists, as part of Germany’s drive to bring all areas of the country into the Euro 2024 celebrations.
German DJs Robin Schulz, Le Shuuk and Topic put on a show for fans, while singer-songwriter Leony performed some of her hits.
Ahead of the opening game itself between Germany and Scotland on June 14, there will also be a formal Opening Ceremony, with reports from German outlet Bild indicating there will be a fireworks display and a ceremonial presentation of the flag of each Euro 2024 entrant. That will take place around one hour before kickoff in Munich.
Who is involved in Euro 2024 Opening Ceremony?
UEFA have announced that they will hold a special tribute to Germany legend Franz Beckenbauer, who died in January aged 78, as part of the Euro 2024 Opening Ceremony.
Beckenbauer captained West Germany to the European Championship title in 1972 and 1974 World Cup glory as a player, while he also led the country to the 1990 FIFA World Cup as manager.
He was part of the Bayern Munich team that won three successive European Cups between 1974 and 1976 and also lifted five Bundesliga titles, both as a player and coach.
Germany’s two living European Championship winning captains, Bernard Dietz (1980) and Jurgen Klinsmann (1996), will be joined by Beckenbauer’s wife, Heidi, as they bring the Henri Delaunay Cup — the trophy which will be presented to the winners after the final in Berlin on 14 July — onto the pitch before the opening match gets underway.
