Scotland star reveals he’s been playing Football Manager in spare time at Euros

TOURNAMENT football in a foreign country has its perks.

A new area to explore, plush facilities to enjoy, and the small matter of representing your country on the elite stage.

It also comes with plenty of spare time, and players can sometimes be left twiddling their thumbs.

For Scotland ace Che Adams, the solution to that is plenty of hours playing Football Manager.

That’s despite the fact he has been sacked not once, but twice!

Speaking to the Scotland team’s YouTube channel, strike star Adams said: “I’ve been using the spa, it’s got good facilities there but I’m also a fan of Football Manager so that’s taken up most of my time in the afternoons.

“I’ve been finding it a bit tricky.

“I started off at Brentford, got sacked from Brentford, joined Newcastle, spent a tonne of money, and then got sacked from there.

“So then onto the next one. I’m at West Ham at the minute.”

And does Adams rush to sign himself in the game?

No, and in fact he’s urged fellow players to avoid him altogether.

He said: “I’m not good enough on the game, so stay well away from me!”

The Scotland squad were welcomed to Garmisch-Partenkirchen by a local brass band and bagpipes.

Adams’ fellow Premier League star John McGinn went viral as he joined in with the traditional dancing.

Such frivolity wasn’t for the shy and unassuming Adams, who preferred to take a back seat.

He said: “I think I’ll leave that to him!

“But yeah, we enjoyed the welcome that they put on for us and everything like that.”

It’s a straight fight between Adams and Lawrence Shankland to lead the line against Germany in the opener.

Adams scored in the 2-0 win over Gibraltar last week before Hearts skipper Shankland struck in the 2-2 draw with Finland on Friday.

The 27-year-old Southampton forward admits going up against the hosts is a tough ask but insists Steve Clarke‘s men believe they CAN upset the odds – if they focus on themselves rather than panic about the threats of their opponents.

He said: “It’s going to be really hard.

“Obviously, we know Germany is a great footballing nation.

“I think we just have to try and nullify them as much as we can and take our chances whenever they pop up, really.

“We just have to take care of ourselves and not worry too much about what they’re going to do to us and try and impose ourselves on them.

“Ever since I was a young boy, you always dream of playing in tournaments and big games like this. I think it’s about just relishing the moment and living in the now.”
