Scotland have made an unbeaten start to the T20 World Cup, batting well in an abandoned match against England before beating Namibia by five wickets. They have another chance to impress when they tackle Oman in Antigua.

Oman are yet to score a point after two matches but they have been competitive in both games, taking Namibia to a Super Over in their opener before putting up a respectable performance in a 39-run defeat by Australia.

Both teams have a new venue to deal with for this match as the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound hosts its first match of the tournament.

Oman made two changes to their team for their second outing against Australia with Shoaib Khan and wicketkeeper-batsman Pratik Athavale being called up. However, both of them were dismissed without scoring and they may struggle to keep their places.

Scotland have sent out the same line-up for each of their first two matches against England and Namibia and another unchanged team is expected after their promising start.

Scotland’s four head-to-head wins over Oman, the latest in 2021, all came with them batting second.

The Scots were going well against England in their opener, reaching 90 for no loss after 10 overs when that game was washed out, but one point from that fixture was more than they may have budgeted for.

They got a first win on the board against Namibia last time out, winning by five wickets after a certain amount of concern during the run-chase, but Richie Berrington’s 47 off 35 balls and a brisk 35 from Michael Leask saw them home.

Oman have no points, but they have put up two decent performances, first losing to Namibia in a Super Over after both teams scored just 109, before a creditable 39-run defeat to mighty Australia.

They will have been pleased to claim five Aussie wickets in that game and should not be underestimated, but Scotland should be able to justify their status as favourites.

This match is the first in the tournament to be played in the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, but one batsman who is likely to deliver for Scotland is George Munsey and he is worth backing to score at least 23 runs in the contest.

Munsey could make only seven in 15 balls against Namibia, but that was an outlier in his recent performances and it was the only time he has been out for a single-figure score in his last 10 one-day matches. That run includes T20 scores of 72 against the Netherlands and 75 against the United Arab Emirates.

Munsey was stranded on 41 not out, with four fours and two sixes, when the rains came and brought a premature end to Scotland’s innings against England and the left-handed batsman should be looking forward to facing the Oman attack.
