Just a week away from the beginning of the Euros, several Celtic stars are vying for a place in the Scotland team that faces Germany next Friday.

Steve Clarke’s men couldn’t have asked for a tougher opening game as they take on the hosts but given their previous giant killing of Spain, the national team will hold some confidence.

Because of injuries to several key assets, Celtic right-back Anthony Ralston will likely get the nod for the showpiece event and it is nothing short of what he deserves.

While Greg Taylor and James Forrest may not be in from the off, their club captain Callum McGregor will be.

The 30-year-old is as key for the Hoops as he is for his country, and that has been no more evident than in some of Scotland’s biggest results over the last few years.

McGregor has played a key role in victories over Serbia, Israel, Spain, and Norway, and his Celtic teammate Benjamin Siegrist recognises how critical he is for the Scots.

“The quality has also increased in Scotland’s national team”, he said (RecordSport).

“Callum McGregor is a conductor in midfield both for my club Celtic and Scotland in the No.6 role.”
