Scotland’s German hosts to welcome squad to town with giant horns and bagpipes
GERMAN hosts will welcome the Scotland squad to their Euros HQ near Mount Wank with giant horns — and bagpipes.
The mayor of Garmisch-Partenkirchen has revealed the town will roll out the red carpet for Steve Clarke’s men.
And that will include a musical salute from locals in traditional Bavarian outfits.
The national team will fly out on Sunday to prepare for their opening game against the host nation on Friday June 14 in Munich’s Allianz Arena.
They will be based in the Alpine ski resort, where plans are well under way to make our players and staff feel right at home.
Mayor Elisabeth Koch said: “Brass bands from Garmisch and Partenkirchen are rehear- sing in a hall right now.

“And your team will be welcomed with a Bavarian-Scottish celebration at Mohrenplatz, in the town centre.
“In addition to trumpets, tubas and very long alphorns there will be an instrument that has not been heard here before — the bagpipes.”
She told how Garmisch-Partenkirchen’s tourist board had hired a professional piper from nearby Nuremberg to play at the event.
Mayor Koch added: “He is now on stage in a kilt. The other male musicians are in lederhosen, which is leather shorts, while the women are in dirndls — our traditional dress, bodice and blouse.
“And together they are rehearsing the song Highland Cathedral for the team’s arrival. It is an honour that the Scots are our guests here.
“My family used to run a guest house and, for my parents, the guests in their house meant everything to them.”
Ms Koch also revealed a large parade will greet our squad’s arrival in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
She added: “There will be lots of blue and white flowers, which have been planted everywhere.
“By coincidence, those are the colours of both Bavaria and Scotland. So the idea here is clear — the kilt meets the lederhosen.”
Last week The Scottish Sun visited the spot where the national team will be based for the duration of Euro 2024.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen, at the base of Mount Wank, has a population of 30,000. The team will train in seclusion surrounded by snow-capped peaks.
Tartan Army chief Hamish Husband told how the Germans will treat our travelling fans like celebs.
