Lyndon Dykes breaks silence on heartbreaking injury that ruled him out of Euros

GUTTED Scotland striker Lyndon Dykes has broken his silence on the devastating injury that scuppered his chances of representing the nation at Euro 2024.

The QPR frontman was ruled out of the tournament at the weekend after picking up a knock in training.

Dykes only scored one goal on the road to the Euros this time round but has nine in total for Scotland in 36 caps and his ability to hold the ball up and bully defenders with his physicality led to boss Steve Clarke describing the 28-year-old forward as “irreplaceable”.

Tommy Conway has been added to the squad after Liverpool wonderkid Ben Doak became the latest to withdraw.

In the wake of his Euros dreams were shattered, Dykes has now broken his silence on what it means to miss out on the competition.

He said on Instagram: “Heartbroken. But, can’t wait to support the boys in Germany,” adding a fist and a Scotland flag to the post.

Among those to respond to the striker’s emotional words with messages of support were two of his Scotland team mates who have suffered injury woes of their own recently in Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack and Bologna captain Lewis Ferguson.

National team skipper Andy Robertson also commented on the post with a raised hand emoji and a blue love heart.

Other team mates and pros past and present were also quick to wish the QPR man well, including Cammy Bell, Junior Hoilett and Chris Iwelumo.

The latter said: “Speedy recovery big man!! Absolutely gutted for you – stay positive.”

Wag Victoria also replied: “Proud of you my love.”

The Tartan Army know how big a loss Dykes is and many of their responses reflected that.
