James Forrest Scotland Return Verdict | Latest Celtic News

Celtic winger James Forrest made his first Scotland appearance in 1,085 days last night in the Algarve against Gibraltar.

Despite getting a fully deserved international recall, the veteran was handed a rather surprise start by Steve Clarke and played on the left-hand side of a 4-2-3-1.

On the wing, Forrest brought some natural width to Scotland, something that has perhaps been lacking in their game over the past few years.

He was involved in some positive combinations of play and really should have had himself on the scoresheet in the first half after Andy Robertson cut it back for him eight yards from goal.

Although the Scots were playing one of the lowest-ranked international sides in Gibraltar, the Celt still turned up and made his contributions to the 2-0 win.

Forrest didn’t overly stand out, but he remained effective and showed he could provide Clarke with something different.

He likely won’t get the nod against Finland on Friday evening, but he will have done his chances of being in the final squad for the Euros no harm at all with his display last night.
