Challenge Golf thrives in Scotland

In a groundbreaking move, Scottish Dsabilit Golf and Curling recently introduced Challenge Golf through its HUB events and has now organised over 250 days of golf, tuition, practice and games, across the country for young and old, new and established players, with all types of disability.

“This innovative programme provides a fun and engaging way for disabled individuals to experience golf, aiming to transform perceptions and accessibility of the sport within the disabled community.  We deliberately focus on enjoyment rather than competitive play.  Golf is more than just a game, and with our HUBS Golf, we’re bringing a joyful, inclusive experience to all participants,” stated Jim Gales, the Founder of the SDGC.  “Our sessions are designed to be light-hearted and fun, ensuring that everyone, from newcomers to seasoned enthusiasts, can enjoy the spirit of the game.”

Throughout the SDGC HUB Programme the charity has provided almost 5000 lessons, at over 250 HUBS with the assistance of over 160 PGA Teaching Professionals and have held HUBS at places across Scotland including: Edinburgh, Fife, Glasgow, Dumfries, Isle of Lewis & Harris, Inverness and Aberdeen.

The SDGC initiative is beginning to grow, with similar programmes already established in countries including Thailand, Australia and Costa Rica.

In addition to their 2024 Programme, the SDGC continues to push for all disabilities to be included in all golf events throughout the world.  “Our Open Abilities approach is a testament to our commitment to inclusivity. We welcome players of all disabilities to join, and we’re particularly proud that our tournaments, including the upcoming British Open, British Masters, National Championships and Phoenix Cup Team International for our more established players, includes more golfers with disabilities than ever before,”concludes Jim.
