Charity’s 40-year anniversary celebration will involve musicians across the north of Scotland, Shetland and Orkney – Aberdeen Business News

CLAN Cancer Support is launching a two-day festival to mark the charity’s 40-year anniversary and celebrate musical talent across its geography.  

ClanFest, sponsored by Hosie Electrical, will take place from Friday, September 6 – Saturday, September 7 at The Drouthy Laird in Inverurie.  

Popular Shetland ceilidh band Da Fustra will lead crowds at the opening ceilidh event on the Friday evening from 8pm with attendees encouraged to take to the floor for traditional dances and enjoy a feast of stovies and macaroni.  

The second day of the festival will see multiple live music acts perform from 12pm until midnight. Chalmers MacKay Music School will be the first to take to the stage with pupils performing throughout the day, with the school further supporting the event with lighting, sound and stage management.  

Inverurie indie rock outfit The Palladium will open the evening session at 6.15pm before sets from rock band Intuition, Moray based country musicians The Lenny Smith Band and classic rock band Double Jack from Aberdeen.  

Upcoming blues trio The Andy Taylor Group from Orkney will be the penultimate performers of the evening with popular 70s band Jolson from Inverurie headlining the event.   

Alana Welsh, community development coordinator at Clan, said: “We are very excited to unveil plans for ClanFest which will be one of the final celebrations of our anniversary year. ClanFest will showcase some of the best local musical talent across our regions and promises to be a truly unique event.  

“Tickets are now available with options to attend the ceilidh and enjoy the full line-up of musicians on the Saturday, or you can build your own experience which incorporates the ceilidh with or without a full or half day ticket on the Saturday. 

“We’d like to thank our event sponsor Hosie Electrical for helping us make ClanFest possible and Chalmers MacKay Music School for their support. We hope to see loads of music lovers and their clans at the Drouthy Laird in September for what we’re sure will be an unforgettable event.”  

The event comes following the launch of the charity’s #PartoftheClan campaign which set out ambitions of raising £2m and engaging more volunteers and service users as part of its anniversary year.   

All proceeds from the event will support Clan’s services across the north-east, Moray, Orkney and Shetland.

ClanFest will open at The Drouthy Laird in Inverurie on Friday, September 6 with a ceilidh event from 8pm. It will continue on Saturday, September 7 with live performances from 12pm.  

A range of tickets are now available for this event with prices from £10. Please note the ceilidh event is for adults over the age of 18.
